The sat-dome is compact in size, light in weight, reliable in operation and incredibly easy to operate and install: there’s just one co-ax cable to run. Even if the in-motion facility isn’t needed, the system’s simplicity, neatness, low power-consumption and ease of installation and use make it an attractive alternative to conventional dish systems.

The system can be used with or without a SKY digibox (some kind of receiver must be used).

It will pick up all popular U.K. TV & radio programmes over all of the British Isles and over most of France & north-east Spain, Holland & Belgium. Over the rest of Europe it has a similar performance to any satellite dish with a diameter of less than 0.9M as shown on the official ASTRA 2D footprint maps. (To the inner edge of the outermost orange area.)

For ASTRA 2A & 2B, performance is similar to dishes of 50cm as shown on the official ASTRA footprint maps. (The inner blue area.)

To see these maps, look at our "Beginners Guide to Satellite TV" in the Tech Tips section.

NOTE: If the areas covered by this dish as described above sound odd, we know: they do. But this unit has been thoroughly tested by us and these are the facts, strange but true!

NEW FOR 2008! This makes it ideal for caravanners, motorcaravanners and boaters who just want to switch on their satellite TV system, sit back and relax.

As with all Camos dome systems, it’s incredibly easy to use and even installation is quite within the capabilities of any competent handyman. With just one cable to connect to the controller and no need to screw the unit to the roof (special adhesive is supplied), it’s also very easy to fit.

The system runs on any voltage between 10V-30V and uses less than 2 Amps when searching and none at all when the satellite has been located.

It can pick up TV & radio from SKY & other broadcasters all over Europe (as with any satellite TV system, what you receive will depend on where you are and what type of receiver you use) thanks to its ability to find 7 different satellites. A SKY digibox or any other satellite receiver can be connected to the system.

We recommend this model when maximum range is required.

To see our own footprint map, based on our own research, feedback from customers and information from the satellite operators, see the footprint map below. NEW IMPROVED MODEL!

Description

Operating voltage:

12V / 24V

Dish type:

Off-set dish inside a protective plastic cover

Dish size:

46cm W x 35cm H

L.N.B. type:

Universal (suitable for digital and analogue transmissions)

Mounting method:

Fixes to roof with Sikaflex and / or screws. The reason for the success of the Camos Dome system is due to its versatility and reliability. The unit is ideal for use in almost every situation and offers some unique features that you can only get from a dome satellite system like the camos.
***NEW***

If you are having problems with your Camos Dome or have a question not answered on the website, please feel free to give us a call or browsethe NEW forum at our main site.

Why Choose the Camos Dome over other makes of Dome Satellite System?

The Camos Dome Satellite System has been on the market in one form or another for several years starting with the introduction of the original Camos Dome 40cm In-Motion unit. Over the years the Camos Dome has been constantly developed and improved to produce the current day model, which takes advantage of the latest in satellite technology to offers cutting edged performance and reliability.

Why choose a Dome Satellite System and not a Dish?

The main advantage to using a dome satellite system is the fact that all the moving parts of the system are enclosed within the dome. The satellite dish its self is protected from the weather by the dome thus making it safe from damage as a result of high wind conditions. This also ensures that the dome satellite system has very little wear and tear. In addition to the obvious advantages of the Camos Dome system, the unit offers the unique ability to track a satellite from a moving vehicle, which as of yet no dish type system has been able to accomplish.

The Camos Dome as a Caravan Satellite System.

The main problem facing the caravan owner is that the roof of a caravan was not designed to take any real weight. If you wanted a satellite system in the past you would have to use a tripod and dish set-up.

However, the camos dome system is now an alternative for the caravanner who is sick of setting up his manual system time and time again. With the flick of a switch, the camos dome offers you a fully automatic satellite system that can be used on the roof of your vehicle without damaging it. (The camos dome system weighs only 9.4kgs which is an acceptable load for most caravan roofs. We advise you to check with the manufacturer before you purchase any system for advise as to the best place to fit the unit.)

The other consideration for the caravan owner is that of the stress a satellite dish system will place on the outer skin of the caravan. Not only is the weight an issue but the stress caused on the aluminium skin of the van. With a standard dish type system, the wind will cause the dish to move from left to right. Although this movement is hard to see it is directly transferred to the base of the dish system causing stress on the skin of the caravan. This can be reduced by screwing the dish into the roof of the caravan but the structure of most roof's will not permit this.
The Camos Dome system has a very low profile and a large base which spreads the weight and any stress over a large area. The dome can be mounted to the roof without the need to screw it on.

THE CAMOS DOME AS A MOTORHOME SATELLITE SYSTEM

The motorhome owner has very few problems with either a dish or dome satellite system given that most motorhomes have a roof that you can walk on.

Therefore, what can the Camos Dome satellite system offer you over the more conventional dish type system? The Dome has a couple of features that would be of interest to you.

The camos dome can track a satellite whilst you vehicle is on the move, so if you have children this is a massive advantage.

The Camos dome is not effected by the weather like a standard dish type satellite system due to the dome which covers the dish.
With a more conventional dish type system, you would have to lower the dish in high winds, which means every night, and every time you leave the vehicle unattended you should put your dish down to avoid damage from the wind.
This in its own may not pose a massive disadvantage but when you add up the power consumed from the continued use of the dish then this can reduce your viewing pleasure by several days.

The final advantage to the Camos Dome is one that wouldn't immediately spring to mind but is again a unique feature of the dome.
When out and about with your vehicle from time to time you may find yourself stopping at a costal caravan park or even on the beach if you are an avid surfer. The Camos dome satellite system is protected from the damage caused by the salt in sea spray which can have an adverse effect on aluminium, used as the main component in satellite systems. No only that but when winter comes around then dome offers protection from the salt used to grit the roads as well.

The Camos Dome as a Narrowboat Satellite System for Inland waterways.

If you have read the previous paragraphs then you will already understand the advantages of the dome satellite system vs the more conventional satellite system and appreciate that the dome is weather proof.

So what more has the camos dome to offer you as a narrowboat or leisure craft owner?

Well, the Camos Dome satellite system has one more trick up its sleeve that makes it well suited for use on boats. The camos dome satellite system can be mounted on removable plates so that it can be removed should you wish to do so. Quite often on the waterways of the united kingdom you will come across a bridge or passage that requires the removal of even the chimney, so having a conventional satellite system of 21cm fitted to your boat would cause some problems.

Take a look at some of our installations of the camos dome.

Well, with the camos dome satellite system you only need to remove the 4 bolts holding the system in place and take it inside. Easy! The same thing would apply if you intended to Moore the boat for some time over the winter.

In the spotlight - The Camos Dome Satellite System

The Camos Sat-Dome has been around for what seems to be centuries.

We decided to take the lid of the Camos Dome and take it apart, we must say that we were impressed.

The Dome Satellite System from Camos is well constructed an uses high quality components from the PCB to the stainless steel bolts.

Overall the dome provided an all round package that was hard to beat.

When you take the lid of the Camos Dome you notice that the unit is very clean and well presented. (Even with the lid off the unit is tidy)

The dome satellite dish is powered by some serious high speed motors which use heavy duty cam belts to move the dish.

The LNB is also a quality unit and can be skewed if you need to.

We removed the dish is self to take a closer look at the bearings that enable the Camos Dome to move with ease.

Again the bearings used on the Camos Satellite Dome are tip top and would easily last a lifetime.

The whole satellite dish is self is moved using another motor which protrudes from the underside of the dish assembly.

This also has a support wheel with another heavy bearing through it.

Conclusion:

After taking the Camos Dome Satellite System apart, we found that the unit was constructed using high quality components. This ensures that the unit is free from any maintenance.

The unit is reliable and easy to install which makes it an ideal unit for the avid DIY person.

You can also see details of how to install a Camos Dome

We are always looking for things to take apart, so if you have a unit you would like us to look at please let us know.
